Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Living Fiqh enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism. In instances where plagiarism is detected in any manuscript submitted for publication, specific actions will be implemented as penalties. Plagiarism is defined as the "utilization or close imitation of another author's language and ideas, presented as one's own original work". It is imperative that all submitted articles are original, unpublished, and unaltered. Any material extracted verbatim from another source must be distinctly marked from the original text through (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) appropriate citation of the source. Furthermore, any text that exceeds the thresholds of fair use or any graphic content reproduced from another source necessitates obtaining permission from the copyright holder and, where possible, the original author(s). The source must also be duly acknowledged, including references to prior publications.
All submitted manuscripts will undergo similarity checks using Turnitin. Upon detection of plagiarism, the Managing Editor responsible for the review will determine the appropriate course of action based on the extent of plagiarism identified, following these guidelines:
[1] Similarity Index Above 40%: The article will be rejected outright due to inadequate citation or paraphrasing, with no option for resubmission.
[2] Similarity Index Between 20% and 40%: The manuscript will be returned to the author for necessary revisions, which must include correct citations for all instances of similarity and improved paraphrasing, even if citations are already provided.
[3] Similarity Index Below 20%: The article may be accepted, although improvements in citation may be required, ensuring that proper citations are provided for all external texts.
In cases 2 and 3, authors are required to meticulously revise their manuscripts, incorporate the necessary citations, and effectively paraphrase any outsourced content. Additionally, they must resubmit the article along with a Turnitin report indicating no instances of plagiarism and a similarity score of less than 20%.
